About Me

Hello and welcome
You are most welcome to visit with me here at Handmade Over Yonder, I'm Tracy a designer maker and natural yarn dyer.  I produce small batch naturally dyed yarns as well as high quality handmade and uniquely designed textile pieces. These are Inspired by both the local historic and local natural landscape.
My training and background in Textile Design has followed me through life until I launched Handmade Over Yonder a number of years ago. I'm a Yorkshire lass, now living on a small Island in Orkney, after our little family decided to follow the dream of living a more sustainable life and moved more than 500 miles from the Yorkshire Dales in January to Rousay. We hope our move helps us to live a more creative and simple life with a lighter footprint on the environment and planet Earth.
My naturally dyed yarn came about a couple of years ago, it has developed and evolved out of a yearning to create beautiful yarn that has less of an impact on the environment as mass produced polluting commercial yarns. The yarn I presently use is spun in Yorkshire and I like to specialize in high quality local and British yarn that is ethically produced and then naturally dyed.
Now that I live on the small island of Rousay I am now on a creative journey to draw inspiration from the ancient and naturally stunning landscape that surrounds our home. I get to explore and gather plants, seeds, fruits, Lichens and Seaweeds, both responsibly and sustainably from my local environment for dyeing yarn.
Through the magical process of natural dyeing and eco printing in which I use elements from the wild as well as the kitchen. As well as Natural dyes & extracts I source online ( many of which meet Global Organic Textile Standards, G.O.T.S.) I am a able to create the beautiful yarns you can browse here in my shop.
Nature is beautiful and the colours she creates are awe inspiring. So let the colours of my yarns take you on a creative journey into knitting or crocheting something that is a pleasure to wear, use and look at .
Thank you for visiting.
